Five Examples Of Smart Wearable Technology Right Over The Horizon

Smart wearable technology constantly evolves, from the humble wristwatch that was first introduced in the mid-19th century to the various pedometers and smart watches that are currently being released on the market.
The truly big question, however, is what we can really do with wearable tech? Here are some of the more outlandish ideas up on offer:
Augmented Reality Glasses
Google Glass was the first real piece of smart wearable technology to change the boundaries of gadgetry after the smartphone revolution. At the moment though, Google Glass functions more like a heads-up display (HUD) than an augmented reality (AR) device. It is basically a smartphone that is right there in your face instead of in your pocket. Give it enough time, though, and smart glasses like Google Glass will eventually be able to look at the world, manipulate the data it gets from the world around us and meld that data with how we perceive the world around us in real-time.
Wrist Computers
Forget laptops or tablets. How about packing a fully-fledge computer into a bracelet instead? Sony has conceptualized a line of wearable devices will rely on a series of technologies to make this possible. One, an OLED screen that wraps around your hand and can be unfolded to serve as the keyboard and touch interface. Two, it will use a projector that will create a larger, wider screen for working with a variety of desktop applications. If Sony can pull this off, then these portable wrist computers will be sought-after by office workers that need an extremely portable but nonetheless capable computer on the go!
Artificial Gills
Seriously. The TRITON conceptual scuba mask was designed by a South Korean designer by the name of JeabyunYeon. Instead of relying on large, bulky tanks to provide oxygen or to scrub air like how traditional rebreathers operate, this setup relies on two extended branches - or 'gills' - that will rapidly extract oxygen from water and convert it to breathable air. If this concept matures and reaches fruition, then we will have a new line of smart wearable technology that will allow us to truly breathe underwater without being burdened by massive blocks of equipment!
Digital Navigation Walking Cane
Visually impaired individuals have a hard enough time getting around their home city. How much more a strange and entirely unfamiliar one? This problem was tackled by the Munich studio of product design company frog, conceptualizing a walking cane that maps out the area and provides feedback for blind or otherwise visually impaired individuals. These aren't exactly wearable gadgets that you don on your body per se, but the potential of these walking canes to bring greater freedom of mobility for the visually impaired is probably the next best thing to having consumer-grade digital eyes!
Hand-Gesture Controllers Bands
The MYO Band is a line of smart wearable technology that could allow you to control various devices using nothing but your arm. Flipping, scrolling, zooming, pointing, double-finger pointing - basically every gesture you make with your fingers and palms will reflect on the muscles of the arm. These conceptual wearable gadgets fit snugly on your arm and 'read' muscle movements that occur whenever you make these gestures. Imagine being able to control the lights, a garage door, a video game or even your own personal drone (gasp!) using nothing but your hands. Now that's a very promising piece of tech right there.
Keep your eye on these lines of smart wearable technology and you could be looking at the next big things that can change our relationship with technology - much like smartphones and tablets in recent years!
